O’ Sullivans’ Bakery was started as a family business in Langford Street, Killorglin in 1952 by Tom O’ Sullivan, to produce
a range of traditional quality bread products for the local market.After its first move in 1969 to Market Street, the company
again moved its operations in 1997 to a new 7000 sq.ft. customised plant in the I.D.A Estate, Killorglin.
Gearoid O’ Sullivan took over and has worked full-time with the company since 1960. Talking a leave of absence from 1965 to 1968, Gearoid began working in a Ranks Bakery in London. In September 1968 he commenced a 2-year full-time bakery course in the Bakery Department of the Borough Polytechnic, now the University of theSouthBank.
Two courses were completed with distinctions and credits in the Bakery & Confectionery, which include Advanced Crafts
and technicians.
His daughter Helen is the managing director since 2009. She joined the company in 1999, after completing her BSc in Food Business (Hons), in the University College of Cork. She has also completed Certificates in Food Hygiene, & Legislation.
Helen is also currently secretary of the South Kerry Food Producers Group.
